MADDSA MEETING MINUTES

12/14/06

DD Coordinator Report - Sandra Butts turned over to Maureen Conaty to report.

  • Crisis Respite Home opened.  Goal is to extend continuum of crisis options for people who are DD, MI or dually diagnosed.  The home is not accessible.  It is also not intended for people whose caregiver has suddenly died.  People with severe aggression/property damage would not be appropriate for the home. Maureen gave information regarding the intake process when someone is brought to MCMHC.  She then explained the process of the intake at the Crisis Respite Home.  A referral must be called into Maureen first through 289-5240 or mconaty@milwcnty.com.    It is on 57th and Silver Spring and they are currently starting with two beds.
  • New Psychiatrist- Dr. Justin Kuehl.  Call Maureen first for appt with him.  He will come out to homes to assess, consult and train staff.

Health Disparities - Reported by Martha DeGraw

  • Health Log will be posted on website for people to access.
  • Oral Health Subcommittee- Received first report on survey at dental school.  There were 1200 Responses.  Most dentists see people with Developmental Disabilities which is hopeful because it keeps the doors open.  However, they did all note that they need more information on how to handle behaviors. The downside is that most of the dentists are older and will be retiring.  Two agencies were visited by tech schools to do initial assessments on participants in the day programs.  The feedback was very good.  They stated it was positive, and appreciated the experience of Kate Wilson and Nancy Pickett.
